Given that Charlie Brooks is famous for her role as Janine Butcher in Eastenders. She is not someone who is going to invite sympathy from the audience as Anna.
Maybe that was the point. Anna is a wronged woman in this series. She is planning to take revenge on her husband and his lover.
This means Anna has murder in her mind and frame Becky for it.
The result is the audience will care little for the main characters involved and have little sympathy for Anna.
This was just a low brow schlocky series. Even the risque scenes were laughably bad.
