Carrie Day (Juli Meredith) hires Intertech and Mannix to do a background check on her fiancée, Mike DiAngelo (Robert Yuro). Joe attends a party at her place to start the investigation. A woman named Gwen (Ann Prentiss), an old girlfriend of DiAngelo, makes an appearance and a drunken scene before leaving. The only reason for her to break in is to give Mannix a lead to check later. That night,
Carrie has a dream and shots are fired. Her uncle Rick Day (John Harding) thinks she shot the pistol herself and tells Joe she just got out of an institution. Joe visits said place and talks to Dr Adams (Richard Mulligan). He seems suspicious. After a threat by two henchmen, Joe finds Gwen and Frank Terrano (Herb Voland) together. Joe knows Frank sent the henchmen his way. Back at Carrie's place, we find she has regressed and is sent back to the institution with Dr Adams. Joe is taken off the case but we all know better. Joe goes to the institution and ends up in a fight with hospital people and a strait jacket. The end is bad. Joe is better at fighting in a strait jacket than most people are without one. The bad guy is Terranto who is trying to kill his institutionalized wife with a build up of digitalis and Carrie saw him give his wife a dose. The nurse (Pat Priest) is in on it. Carrie and Dr Adams kissing at the end tells me that Mike DiAngelo is out of there. That's a good thing.
The cast are all veterans and perform well. Frank Yuro is usually a slime ball but in this outing, he is an innocent slime ball. I personally would have run away with Ann Prentiss.
This episode isn't horrible but it isn't very good either. It seems to be a standard plot device in many TV shows that people recently released from an institution has someone around trying to drive them crazy and we know they aren't. Having Lew Wickersham meet Mannix at the gym while Lew is boxing was a mistake. It is clear Joseph Campanella doesn't do that. Intertech people get knocked out a lot.
