I have read Jay Bell's Seasons series of books and really got into them; the film as you might expect missing much of the depth of these and missed out many aspects, I also didn't like some aspects which were changed from the book which in my view changed the dynamics and motivation(s) of the characters.
I am sorry to say i didn't enjoy the singing / musical sections - this just didn't work for me or link to the books well in my own opinion, the songs just didn't work, it was put in at odd places (and they could have had this type of thing in a relevant place such as the talent show thats in the book - but not the film).
Sadly many of the secondary characters lacked the depth that are in the books - if you read the books the acting didn't always match what was on screen.
I enjoyed watching this but sadly it feel short of what could have been amazing.
