Steve Forrest plays Miller. A hotshot lawyer who is in league with gangsters that run illegal bookmaking.
Miller is enjoying the high life and plans to go higher.
He also takes under his wing assistant district attorney Bill Burnett who has money problems.
Burnett is now doing business for Miller, including picking up the cash from the bookies. Miller also takes an active interest in Burnett's wife.
The story becomes a triangle between the three characters. There is little here for Paul Marino to do.
It is the gangsters who take care of Miller. They know he has become greedy.
