The movie portrays the late part of the Cold War from the American side. If Charlie Wilson is improbable, Joanne Herring is surreal, and yet that is exactly what happened. The movie is well written, well directed, well acted and the music score is good. First class Hollywood all around.
The movie has a happy ending with a hindsight foreboding. The real ending is still in progress and it is not good. Too bad Charlie Wilson didn't read about Lawrence of Arabia, or he would have realized how difficult it is to win the Peace in Muslim countries. We never learn.
