Some Nice Music Redeems All the Womanizing and Brawling
1 February 2021
This complicated and longish comedy setup of brothers confusing their identities goes back as far as the ancient Roman playwright Plautus, and there is also a bit of Quirt and Flagg in the teaming of men who enjoy fighting as well as picking up women. Star Jorge Negrete who plays both brothers was famous as a singing cowboy in "ranchero" films so there are some pleasant musical numbers. The whimsical charm that does come through is somewhat balanced by the unfortunate impression the movie gives that at least during this 1950s era, Mexican women put up with a lot of rough treatment from their strutting macho men.
