Review of Legion

Legion (2017–2019)
No masterpiece, pretty mediocre and going downhill
28 October 2020
Legion has a somewhat constant surreal vibe, you get long interludes( too often almost the entirety of the episode) of great visuals and mind/oniric sequences. Despite that the rest of the time it looks incredibly cheap and the soap opera writing comes off strong. Every season gets worse than the previous and if by half of the first season we have some established characters with an agenda of their own, by the end of the third season everybody gets reduced a caricature of their self, you might say they get flanderized, and one small detail becomes the core of their identity or their actions. That is until the plot makes somebody behave erratically for the sake of manifacturing drama. The show is not well written, it goes for the weak tv writing that teases the viewer initially with overarching plots and then just makes the characters spinning in circles like headless chickens with the arrogance of somebody who thinks you are emotionally engaged in the cast. The cast choices are quite bad with the exceptions of the various villains. The last season becomes politically charged and panders to some fringe beliefs about rape/sex. There are some gender/identity politics topics showcased but unless you are very sensitive to those, they should not feel too distasteful. All and all the show cant get a positive rating for the plot stretched too thin, quality of the writing and the amount of flashbacks or episodes that happen in the mind of one of the characters. The 10% of the show that is good, is quite good
