Cannon: Press Pass to the Slammer (1973)

Nice Episode

Typical Cannon in several ways - Cannon is beat up and gets to make a couple of heartfelt speeches. He gets to go semi-undercover and, as with most episodes, it doesn't work. He shows his weakness for treats. I give William Conrad and the producers credit for allowing the occasional joke about Cannon's eating habits and girth instead of ignoring the obvious. Marlyn Mason is attractive and a fine actress. This role is an excellent fit for her. Mason's part as a hard charging reporter has the feeling of a backdoor pilot where they put a character in a regular episode of another show and see how it plays. For example - The NCIS crew started out on an episode of JAG. Stuart Margolin has always been underrated as an actor. He can play the uptight, slightly cowardly guy in his sleep. The various bad guys are suitable evil and they lose out in the end. If you like Cannon, you will like this episode.
