Review of Manon

Manon (1949)
6/10
Sprawling soap opera
22 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
And that is not Clouzot's forte; a shocking murder sequence is one of the few times when you can spot the director in this well-produced but wildly uneven film. Clouzot certainly pulls out all the crazy-doomed-love melodramatic stops, particularly in the prolonged - and somewhat perverse - finale. Manon herself is often more infuriating than irresistible. **1/2 out of 4.
