Some viewers might be upset about the flippant attitude of both Mariner and the Captain in this episode. If Lower Decks was meant to be a "realistic" portrayal of the (fictional) Starfleet, then yes, I suppose there would be reason to get upset. But Lower Decks is an animated comedy series that is clearly not meant to follow the rules and format of the Star Trek franchise completely.

Mariner can be very childish. That's a given. The Captain also behaves in a non-Starfleet-like manner. That's a little bit more of a problem, considering she is not supposed to be the source of humor on this show. But Mariner's Tom Sawyer-type schemes and attitude can be endearing, in a "guilty pleasure" sort of way. I laughed when she rolled over and off the bed. It's an exaggeration of behavior that we see in many kids. It's not something we would expect to see in a Starfleet officer, but it was still funny to me.

We also got to see a different side of Mariner, for a brief moment. The episode worked for me, in a chaotic, messy manner.
