Review of Jakub

Jakub (1992)
9/10
Excellent documentary. Full of humanism. Great soundtrack. Beautiful and gloomy.

Outstanding documentary that digs into the collective and personal trauma of forced population mixing, either through war or through political tactics. Filmed in stunning b/w it matches the furrowed faces to the soil and provides ample poetic and mystical imagery. The narratives around Jakub and the relfections on home(lessness), war, and conscience make for a sociologically sharp film: A close-up on life, really.
