Forcefully Fascinating

My reaction on my first viewing of this was a huge "Wow!".

This was kind of shocking in how it added previously unheard of ancient lore into the story of the force, the Jedi and the Sith. Bold and striking storytelling which is hugely admirable.

A distress signal is picked up in an ancient code which when followed leads Obi Wan, Anakin and Ahsoka to an unknown world called Mortis. There they meet 3 beings who reveal themselves as ancient force wielders - the Father, the Son and the Daughter. The Father predates all Jedi and Sith and has power over both light and dark sides of the force. He has taken a role keeping balance in the force. The Son is the embodiment of the dark side and the Daughter is the light.

The Father wants to explore if Anakin is indeed the chosen one who can bring balance and replace him as he is dying. Anakin is forced to take a test.

The story is creating a rich fantasy origin story giving background to the force. It also adds to the story of Anakin (and in turn, Rey) who wields both dark and light which is dangerous but allows greater power and potential to create balance.

It is quite a lot to add and is very surprising and challenging.

The depth of storytelling and exploration of Anakin's character and destiny is utterly spellbinding. Everything is done cleverly, powerfully and exudes class.

This is a real plus to the canon and an astounding episode.

My rating: 10/10.
