A wedge comes to the land of Meredith

There are those who speculate so-called green energy to be a rather diabolical plot, one set against western industrialized nations, specifically -- which they perceive to be a (radical) leftist agenda, with the aim of destroying capitalism under the guise of "global warming" and in the process centralizing global power and control.

One of the more interesting observations made by one of the locals in this intriguing documentary, is how claiming to go green often appears to be motivated by the desire for greenbacks. It's all about being green all right, remarks one townsman, while rubbing his fingers together to denote a cash grab.

Whether greed is in fact what drives wind power companies, or genuine concern for the environment first and foremost, is something I suppose only they would know.

Watching WINDFALL is like watching something from a whole other time period, when anthropogenic climate change was on the minds of most people.

The movie is essentially about the residents of a small U.S. town named Meredith (located in the state of New York), and their reactions to wind farm developers entering the area and erecting turbines in and around their countryside community.

As one of the citizens of Meredith comments, the manufacture and installation alone of these gigantic structures causes pollution in and of itself.

The town of Meredith becomes quickly divided, between the yeasayers who feel the towering windmills will help save the planet, and the naysayers who raise public health concerns and who consider the monstrosities a blight on the landscape.

There is many a scene of some of the locals sitting in on townhall meetings, chewin' the cud, trying to reach some form of an agreement, but tensions are high and the eventual outcome uncertain.

Will the decisive votes be for or against the windmills? Are these structures really for the sake of the environment, or for the birds?
