The first of Lucy and Ethel's many antics.

Warning: Spoilers
It's the battle of the sexes in the premiere episode of the long running sitcom that may have not been the first, but was certainly first as far as legendary shorts go. It's Fred and Ethel's anniversary, and a grumbling Fred wants to go to the Monday night fights while the girls want to go to the Copacabana. A fight between the two couples ensues and Lucy and Ethel decide to find their own dates to escort them to the nightclub dial Ricky and Fred go to the fights by themselves. They decide to keep an eye on the girls by finding their own Gates and going to the Copa, but Lucy and Ethel find out about it and disguise themselves in hysterical ways to prevent this from happening.

The show gets achoo hysterical start with Lucy and Ethel going over the top in their hideous disguises and paying for it dearly when Ricky and Fred realized immediately what's going on. They got good Revenge, but at least Lucy and Ethel get the satisfaction of getting some laughs.

While this doesn't really seem like a show opener, that doesn't matter historically because we've come to know and love these characters so it's just another day in a life of the Ricardos and mertzes, and everybody gets a chance to shine. Frawley is particularly funny as he grumbles about the years he spent with his wife, insinuating that he feels trapped. Irregardless of what Frawley and Vivian Vance felt about each other off the set, it obviously doesn't show, and their interactions are hysterical. Of course, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz have great chemistry that shines through the love that was obviously still strong.
