Flip That Romance (2019 TV Movie)
1/10
Toxic lead actress
25 July 2020
I wanted to enjoy this show. I really did. I decided against re-watching my perennial Hallmark favourite movies (there is a long list) to watch this show for the first time.

I have seen Tyler Hynes in other movies and he is an amazing romantic lead - one of the most attractive Hallmark men! He is charming, handsome, so sexy and pretty smouldering in the way he looks at his female leads - you can feel the longing! So I was really excited he was in this movie. He always comes across as strong and dependable. I don't really have much complaints there except that I think he was given a terrible lead actress to play across. She is stressful to watch all through the show.

Well maybe it was more the character than the actress but still! Jules is SO annoying and childish! She is catty and is wound tighter than a climbing ivy (for lack of a better comparison that comes to mind). The bickering just went on and on from her side and she is petty and irresponsible to put up a bid she cannot afford just to one up her ex. Every conversation between her and Lance is an opportunity she takes to drop bitter sarcastic comments his way. I cringed everytime it looked like they were going to speak to each other because her special version of venom is toxic in any show, much less a Hallmark show. A very bitter personality behind a pretty face.

And then we get the great reveal. The huge sin she holds against him is that ... he moved (or demolished?) the master cupboard?? What? And that he moved away to further his career? Yeah, he is a real cad. Come on.

I cannot believe how awful she was to the guy in the flooring shop. Was his education level or the colour of his skin or his clothes not up to her standard that she had to ask to speak to the manager only to discover that he IS the manager? She is really a horrible person to assume that he wasn't the manager. And what on earth was with that hostile, childish and very entitled melt down she had in that shop? I kind of lost interest in her ending up with Lance after that.

Of course her black heartedness immediately jumps to accusing Lance of being black hearted enough to sabotage her kitchen permit. Yikes she is really not a nice person.

OH MY GOD. He is paying for extra help to paint the house and she throws a hissy fit in his face??? "Why didn't you consult me?" He is PAYING for the cost woman! Ugh!!!

Why is Lance so silly to even want a woman like that? He is better off as a person and as a professional without her. Why does he need to keep apologising to Jules when actually, she needs to be the one apologising - all the time. The storyline threw the 2 leads together at every turn but their relationship did not develop between bitter and twisted so the kisses at the end ... did aliens take over their characters?

It is nice to see Cardi Wong say more than 3 sentences in a movie he is in and to actually be cast as a professional at something other than mixing drinks and handling hotel guests laundry - as he did in other shows.

I'm really disappointed this show wasn't better. The writers really should have eased up on toxic nastiness from Jules.
