Review of Gumball

Gumball (2008 TV Short)
Interesting Early Gumball Short

Warning: Spoilers
While the outstanding CN TV series "The Amazing World of Gumball" officially started in the year 2011, early sketches of the show were made as early as 2008 (or if you buy into the whole "The Grieving" creeypasta, even earlier). This minute-and-a-half short is considered by many to be the "pilot" episode (the real pilot being "The DVD"; this one is a TV short, but not an episode of the show). Known simply by the title of "Gumball", there are many things to be noted about this brief outline that are quite different when compared to the series itself. Different voice actors entirely from the ones that would start off Season 1, as well as the fact Gumball's and Darwin's designs are totally unlike what they would later evolve into.

The story of this early sketch is that Gumball and Darwin are trying to escape school while on the playground at recess (as one may note, later episodes would not feature this delinquent depiction of the characters). They have an indescribably ridiculous plan laid out to get them over the fence surrounding the playground that (surprise!) ultimately fails in an amusing conclusion. Certainly not up to the standards of the humor in the show (which was absolutely hilarious) but an interesting test and worthwhile for the casual fan.
