Castle Rock (2018–2019)
3/10
Gave it a chance and regretted it. Cut your losses early and move on.

Endured this snoozefest for 10 episodes to conclude that this show's an utter disappointment and I definitely won't be back for S2. I really like sci-fi shows and movies that deal with time travel paradoxes, space, cosmic horror and alternate realities. Unfortunately this was not one of them.

From the first episode I felt bored but since I invested an hour watching it I decided to continue to see if it gets better. After more episodes in, I still wasn't intrigued but decided to "give it a chance" like the good reviews suggested. If you're like me and didn't like it in the beginning, it's likely you won't like the end either. The reveal doesn't come until the end of the season and honestly it doesn't justify the boredom I had to sit through. I really wanted to enjoy it and care but it was difficult and a real test of patience. I didn't like any of the characters... I found Melanie Lynskey's performances especially cringeworthy. Every time she was on screen I hoped it'd be over soon because she always has this clueless look on her face and her voice is annoying to listen to. They try so hard to add mystery by not having Bill's character speak and giving off weird facial expressions so you're kept guessing until the later episodes when he easily could've spoken earlier. I can't believe I wasted so much time watching this. It's a good thing I wasn't entirely focused and this was more background noise accompanying other stuff I was doing. It's still time I'll never get back. Next time I come across a bore like this, I'll definitely cut early.

If you're looking for a good mindbending horror sci fi show to watch that you'll care about go watch 'Dark' on Netflix instead. That is leaps and bounds better and not a complete waste of time like this. You'll thank me later.
