WTF
21 November 2019
I saw this film at the Three Rivers Film Festival in 2019. First one must decide what is the filmmaker trying to do? Is he telling a story? Is he making a statement? Both? Neither? or is this simply a portrait of images hanging as a single work in a gallery. I chose the latter. The film has as its center California highway 110, "the first expressway in LA". The movement on the highway is slow to begin and accelerates as the film progresses. Time passes from early morning to late night. Faster and faster. More and more crowded. There is a Dodge Charger, the "hero" of the film, the antagonist. Are we seeing "progress" or "entropy"? One may feel chaos, disorder, speed, claustrophobia. It is what it is. Just like that painting on the museum wall.
