Teletubbies (2015–2018)
4/10
Doesn't really capture the charm of the original
6 November 2019
The Teletubbies of the 90's were a hit that struck the world by storm. Being introduced to the world of these alien-like creatures was pretty mesmerizing indeed. The setting was beautiful, and the things that would go on every now and then were a nice touch. However, in 2001, Teletubbies filmed their very last episode before wrapping up the series. Yes, the Teletubbies would never appear on the TV screens again. Or would they?

In 2014, BBC announced a remake of the Teletubbies. The Teletubbies, after 13 years of a break, would appear on the screens once again! However, the remake has its flaws.

The intro of the Teletubbies remake is somewhat shot for shot, as we see the Sun Baby rise over the hills once again, notifying us the Teletubbies were back! However, the remake's intro seems to be pretty rushed, as several scenes from the original intro seem to have been cut short, and lose their dramatic impact. So enough of the intro, let's get into the main episodes. Whilst many of the core assets from the original series have indeed stayed, several have also disappeared. Whilst it no longer looks nearly as realistic as the original (it is now filmed in a studio) It still replicates Teletubbyland! However, several charming assets from the original have indeed disappeared. The Magical Events are indeed no more, though they had great impact in the original series. Whilst I do understand the Lion and the Bear aren't coming back, BBC, DHX, can I at least get a realistic parade of animals? Or maybe a more realistic tree with doves? The Talking Flowers have also disappeared, though these were as well charming in the original as well. And with today's technology, they would be a piece of cake! I don't see any reason to omit them, other than the shorter episode runtime. Pity really, as it is a nice looking environment. The Tubbytronic Superdome, whilst one of the core assets, isn't safe from a big redo either. It no longer is as technological as it used to be, and poor Noo Noo has got a new coat of paint! The Tubby Custard Machine is now a train, the only surviving thing seems to be the Tubby Toast machine! And don't get me started on the Tiddlytubbies.... So yeah, that's my opinion of the Teletubbies remake. It seems to rush over or omit the best assets of the original in my eyes!
