We were surprised that this is a religious movie, as there was no overt disclosure of that fact before opening weekend. Now, with all the reviews and press, it would have been easy to avoid.
I was a little disoriented in the first hour of it, in how boring and amateurish it was, AS A MOVIE. Then, when the sermons started, I realized what had happened and it made sense.
Oh well, no harm done, we had some laughs afterwards, and reminded ourselves to do a little more vetting on a film before wasting time and money on it. It DID remind us of just how good McFarland, USA was, both actually and by comparison. We are going to watch it again this weekend, to hopefully overwrite the memory of overridden, overcomer, or whatever it is (it's already working!).
