Good stepping stone for local animation industry
28 March 2019
I'm very picky in terms of production quality of movies/TV series, and this one gets a passing grade from me. It's a vast step-up from previous iteration of Upin Ipin the movie and it is the best that the industry has to offer. It could be better, for instance the animation lacked realism, attention to detail is not there but for the budget, in my opinion they've done extremely well.

Audio on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. While the OSTs are great, voice/spatial arrangement is subpar. Voices get randomly moved from one channel to the other, the transition wasn't graceful at all and it was very disorienting. Some voice acting felt unnatural and lackluster. This is one aspect the local production has to improve a lot.

Story-wise, it was fun and engaging. No noticeable plot holes except for some references to Malay folktales which might affect story/character development for some people.

Overall, this film gives a satisfactory experience and gets a recommendation from me.
