CHEER! - (9 stars out of 10)

The stage curtains open ...

Fantastic! The best thing since Harry Potter. It's fun and funny ... colorful and beguiling. Movie magic (quite literally)! It's shades of "Hocus Pocus" ... a horror movie for kids, you might say.

Set in 1955 - when 10-year-old Lewis goes to live with his Uncle after the untimely death of his parents due to an automobile accident, it doesn't take long for him to realize that nothing in his new house is normal or ordinary. At first, he thinks the house is haunted, but finds out that it is really a house of magic ... with deeply hidden secrets that even his Uncle is trying to discover. Together with Florence, their neighbor and friend, the three of them find themselves in a race against time to save the world from certain destruction.

I absolutely loved this movie. It is fantasy escapism that is just as entertaining for adults as it is for kids. There is plenty of mystery and magic here to keep you engaged and wanting more. It is perfectly cast and directed. The payoff at the end is very well worth the time invested - and the story along the way is well told and acted out. The movie features rich use of colors and graphics, and the special effects are second-to-none.

I highly recommend "The House With A Clock In Its Walls" for all generations. A great film for the Halloween season, but to be fair ... anytime of the year. I know I will enjoy it just as much the next time I see it, which I feel will be soon.
