Very strong film

Warning: Spoilers
This is film is about the sexual abuse brought on by one priest over many young boys and its effects later in life. It highlights many important aspects of these abuses: how they came about, why did the Catholic Church do exactly nothing, what were the after effects, how people deal with these abuses, what did parents do. The film is very frank, very honest yet not graphic. Teenagers can see it and I believe that it would be very beneficial.

In this instance, the film focuses on the victims when they are adults, but there are many short flashback, like painful memories. It is very realistic.Victims are not always painted in a sympathetic way but you can feel the wasted lives. It is fortunate that none perpetuated the abuse but all carry their abuse throughout their lives. The role of supporting families is explored.

Finally the main abuser does get a few words in. He is not absolved nor pardoned, but it does highlight the fact that the Church failed to deal with him in any consistent way. Why did his superior allow him to remain in contact with young boys for decades is the real crime.

Altogether the film is superb.
