Terrible action film is only for Lister, Schneider, or Russo fans
10 November 2018
Badly made low-budget crime film with a fun cast doing some serious slumming. Very cool character actor Tommy "Tiny" Lister plays LAPD detective Jack Justice, who on his way through Texas runs afoul local racist sheriff John "Dukes of Hazzard" Schneider. That set-up has the makings of a classic exploitation film, something along the lines of "Black Sampson" meets "Walking Tall." However, this film is poorly written, poorly directed, and would have been rendered unwatchable except for the three leads of the film, which besides Lister and Schneider also includes the extremely talented and extremely underused James Russo as a rogue FBI agent. The fight sequences were respectable and I enjoy Lister in just about anything, although there's one dramatic scene where Lister attempts to "act" and the emoting it's not pretty. Overall, unless you're a die hard Lister, Schneider or Russo fan (which I may be), don't bother watching this film. And don't forget to stay around for the terrible rap music video over the end credits.
