James Gleason, Director
4 October 2018
When Russel Gleason is thought to have made a kick by Jim Thorpe, he is reinstated on the college team in time for the big game.

This is one of three sports shorts that James Gleason directed for Educational Pictures in the waning days of that organization. Gleason was a multi-talented man. Besides being a scene-stealing supporting player, he had credits as a Broadway playwright, a screenwriter and directed four movies, three of them a series of sports shorts. Here, within the comic confines of this standard drama, we get to see not only great athlete Jim Thorpe (well past his glory days), but also Bill Spaulding and Dutch Hendrian, amidst a cast that includes Russel Gleason, Lucille Gleason as his mother and Eugene Pallette as his uncle. It's not a great short, but it's worth watching for a superb cast.
