Solid Korean thrills

Warning: Spoilers
THE SECRET REUNION is another solid South Korean thriller which mixes various elements into a satisfying whole. The great Song Kang-ho plays the lead here, the head of an intelligence agency who finds himself up against a top North Korean assassin in the film's breathless and gruesomely violent opening 20 minutes. After this point the film slows down to become an engrossing character study, with Gang Dong-won effective as the agent who finds his loyalties tested by his own humanity. The film has touches of BOURNE-style action which the Koreans do so well, and the plot twists keep on coming, building to a satisfying climax. I found the eventual outcome quite predictable but the journey to that point is an entertaining one, and the touches of comedy (such as the handcuff scene) work well.
