An excellent Yugoslav movie based on an equally worthy novel by the same name. (See the wikipedia entry for more details.) Vojislav Miric, Faruk Begolli and Abdurahman Shala give the performances of their lives. Beautifully filmed, the movie also serves as a useful, if oblique, insight into the "old" pre-1990 Yugoslavia and their cinema.
