Sure it's another "special individual" teams up with police/FBI" drama.
That said, the characters and the cases are serious and funny at the same time. The cases so far (episode 9) are about bad guys who conveniently use deceptions in order to fool the cops. I like how there is the crime of the week while also having a larger story arc which progresses almost in every episode without too much stupid drama.
Almost each episode has an interesting revealing act, and you can learn a trick or two by a charming magician! I find it to be much better that many similar shows, although maybe a bit predictable at times.
