In a Lonely Place puts Kovacs together with the burned out marine Vernon Elliot, a partnership foreshadowed in Fallen Angel, and one that will prove interesting. We learn more about the philosophy of the Envoys and how Kovacs operates. And dive deeper into the Meths (Methuselahs) of the Aerium. Also, yet another application of sleeving emerges, kids (67 year-old kids) borrowing their meth parents' state-of-the-art cloned sleeves for hookups.
In keeping with the series so far, this episode opens with a flashback to Kovacs' childhood that showcases the series's willingness to push the envelope visually, creatively intercutting a traumatic experience he and his sister endure with hand-drawn, anime-style animation. Every episode ends with a short graphic of depicting some aspect of the following episode. There's just a lot to look at here.
