Watch it even if you are not interested in AAP or India
17 November 2017
I was forced to tag along with by my friend for a preview and assumed that this will be some boring story glorifying the struggle of this party and leader. how wrong was I!!

Some good aspects of the documentary- First, It is not boring, even when you know everything that is going to happen it feels thrilling because you see the same events from the inside perspective. Duration is very short and hence extremely fast paced. Second, Kejriwal is not the star here, the story itself is the main character. Yogendra Yadav has almost equal impact as Kejriwal. The poster is misleading, I think they made it to attract more people. Third, - There is no glorification, like we see in our news channels - Saviour of common man, Anti-corruption king etc. Every character will feel like an ordinary person.

Some unique aspects of this documentary

  • ZERO VOICE OVERS This is perhaps the only documentary I have seen which has no voice overs. There is no narrative voice which explains the events being shown or about to be shown.

  • ZERO INTERVIEWS, the photographer is always on 'observational mode' i.e. nobody actually sees in the camera lens and answers something asked by the director. In many documentaries like Sachin's we have his colleagues, relatives, commentators sitting in front of camera and recalling some stories; In this one there is nothing like that. Everybody is going about there own business as if they are not being filmed.

  • LEVEL OF ACCESS is unprecedented there are a lot of scenes upon which one might think how did the camera get there? One example is - Scene of Election commission's counting center, we have 100 channels in our nation but till date nobody has shown what happens inside a vote counting center. This is the reason, despite knowing the result of election, viewer will feel thrilled when in ECI office a print out comes with the live tally of seats.

  • COMEDY. Yes there are some comical moments when you see the personalities in complete unrehearsed demeanor. e.g Yogendra Yadav being nervous or Kejriwal laughing uncontrollably

Some other things to know, this is not story of 2015 election, they have only shot till Dec 2013 when results were announced. There is nothing about Kejriwal's role as CM, resignation etc.

So catch this riveting and unconventional piece of cinema while you can, I am sure that this kind of movie will never be made again. Even AAP themselves will not give such an access to anyone now. In an interview the directors said that when they went to AAP in Oct 2012 there was no media house covering AAP. So the party was happy to have anybody who wanted to film them.
