At least the title is true

Warning: Spoilers
"Une histoire sans importance" or "A History Without Importance" is a French live action short film from 1980 that runs for almost 40 minutes and at over 35 years old it is still not too common for films to be in black-and-white. But maybe writer and director Jacques Duron's intention was on par with the grandmasters Truffaut and Godard and that's why he took this creative choice. But even for me who is a fan of modern b&w films this did almost nothing as the story was so unimpressive. The bleakness wasn't the problem. The problem was that I never really ended up caring for either of the two boys. The key message is that one of the develops an extreme infatuation with the other, but it was never an atmospheric watch and I did not find it too progressive either. At least they kept it somewhat realistic as the other is not gay all of a sudden too. The material is good enough for 15 minutes max. I always wonder why people love defining films as gay films as this one here is called this too. Aren't they looking for great writing, a convincing story or strong performances besides the mere inclusion of a gay character? Anyway, I am not surprised that neither Duron nor his 2 lead actors managed a career in the industry because from what I saw here their talent ranged between mediocre and forgettable. Don't watch.
