DC's Legends of Tomorrow: Freakshow (2017)
Season 3, Episode 2
8/10
Welcome to the Circus!

Backing up my claim from last week, once again this episode was a whole lot of fun. For me, out of all the shows, Legends has the most genuine and unforced feel of fun behind each of their episodes. I don't think Legends would work if they tried to capture the dark feel of say Arrow and Flash S3. But lucky for us the writers feel comfortable sticking with that fun and light-hearted feel. Which is great!

Now on to the episode. We get our explanation for why Amaya left Nate (and the group), which was to save her Granddaughter's life as if Amaya had stayed in 2017 her granddaughter would be erased. This felt like a legitimate reason as everyone would do anything for their family.

But I feel as though Amaya's return was a bit rushed. As soon as they come across an anachronism that has something to do with animals, she comes back. I think her return would've had a stronger feel behind it had she been gone for a few more episodes.

Now onto the "villain" and the plot. Although I really like that they had a circus themed episode, there wasn't really a villain this week? The one and only P.T Barnum was the villain this week. That's right, a person with no powers what so ever pushed the Legends to their peak. He was able to lock up over half of the team, and that just felt really cheap. If the Legends can't easily dismantle a "villain" like this, then what hope do they have against the other villains they will face this season?

Despite this problem the fun and whimsical nature of the episode keeps it enjoyable. The man of steel pun when Nate steeled up, and Mick's fear of clowns are two great examples.

Finally, Amaya explains how she's been losing control of her powers in recent times. Will this have a connection to the main villain?

Overall enjoyable episode, even with a sub par villain. 7.8/10
