How Caroline became Echo and everybody gets drugged
9 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
After a student at a university kills himself in a research lab funded by the Rossum Corporation the Dollhouse is asked to help. It turns out he took an experimental drug which acts on the brains memory inhibitors and other people on campus are showing signs of being affected. All available actives are sent to the campus; it is believed that they will be unaffected due to their treatment but the same can't be said of their handlers. Their job will be to find a second vial of the drug and treat those affected Echo is already in an assignment but after seeing a news report on the events at the university she suddenly feels that she must go there to rescue somebody.

This was a really solid episode; the main story is interesting and provided some surprisingly amusing moments; most notable when Victor orders the officious Laurence Dominic around and later when Laurence is affected by the drug… when Adelle and Topher get affected it is pretty funny as well. The way the events triggered memories in Echo provided a good reason to show flashbacks which ultimately explain what Caroline did to ultimately end up in the Dollhouse. I was a little unsure how the story would be wrapped up when there was a lot unexplained with only about ten minutes to go but thankfully a solid ending was provided; an ending that left Echo's future in doubt. The cast did a solid job; I particularly liked Reed Diamond's performance as the drugged Laurence and Olivia Williams and Fran Kranz as Adelle and Topher when they start getting silly, also when drugged. Overall this was a fine blend of drama and humour… the series really seems to have found its stride.
