Highway Patrol: Hypo Bandit (1957)
Season 3, Episode 1
Bonnie & Clyde?

An episode like this had me wishing for high school again. Catch actress Vail (Anita) in her campus queen outfit of the day—tight skirt, tight sweater, and a gallery of salivating boys. Too bad this is her one and only screen credit, but then sweet as she is, her acting is a little shaky. Then there's that '57 Batmobile the fugitive couple drives with enough fender for three more cars. In those days they called it "conspicuous consumption".

It's an okay episode that focuses mainly on the fugitive couple. Joe's (Vath) modus operandi is a little different. Before stealing loot from a shop, he injects the clerk with a knockout drop. That way there's no surprises. And that's after Anita's cased the joint for only one clerk. Trouble is Joe's pretty shaky with the tricky drops, so the victim's lucky to wake up at all, which a few don't. So you know who's swinging into action as a result.

A series strength was emphasis on location filming. Thus we see numerous shots of San Fernando Valley streets and LA countryside, circa 1957. Also, can't help thinking that if Joe weren't such a conceited jerk, Anita has enough natural appeal to make their doomed relationship rather poignant. Anyway, all in all, it's the fugitive couple that dominates this okay entry.
