What happens when you threaten Lucas Buck
31 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Mel Kirby runs a show on the local radio station with his wife Gloria but dreams of moving to television; unfortunately the TV stations say they aren't telegenic enough. He goes to see Lucas Buck for help but as he has nothing to offer in return Lucas declines. Mel then threatens to get his revenge on Lucas. The next day a caller to his show says that her husband has a gun and is threatening Deputy Ben Healy; he then starts shooting at Ben; Ben then enters the house and shoots the man severely injuring him. As the man owed Lucas money Mel goads Ben into saying that is why he shot him. Lucas then tells Mel there may be a way for him to work on television… but first he'll have to get rid of his wife! While all this is going on Caleb is trying to find a way to bring Merlyn back again.

This is a top rate episode that shows Lucas Buck at his most devious as he persuades Mel to kill his wife; this all works gradually and leads up to a great twist at the end. Caleb's part of the story is a distinctly secondary plot line but it is still interesting, includes a few scary moments and ends in a way that is far from conclusive but feels ominous. As expected Gary Cole does a great job as Sheriff Buck and Lucas Black impresses as Caleb. Nick Searcy gets to shine as Ben takes a more central role, Brenda Bakke is also rather fun as Selena. Guest stars Greg Travis and Irene Ziegler do good jobs in the roles of Mel and Gloria Kirby. The story has a few mildly frightening moments and special effects that are decent enough for a TV show of this age. Overall a really good episode.
