Review of Tonio

Tonio (2016)
9/10
great picturing of a family tragedy

Warning: Spoilers
'Tonio' (a kind of Dutch name for 'Anthony') makes a great film about an elderly Dutch couple, having lost their only (adolescent) child in a road accident.

We see how the mother and the father deal with the loss of their Tonio. Each in their own way. We also see the support they give each other, and the way they react on all influences coming in from the outside.

Very credible acting, that will go straight to your heart. Set in nowadays' Amsterdam, which always adds an extra to any film. But it is its picturing that makes 'Tonio' truly outstanding. Constantly switching between past en present, by using many well-timed flashbacks. In this way a very credible, deep & coherent story is woven.
