Attack of the flying dinosaurs
26 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
As this episode opens a couple of incompetents are playing golf and inevitably one of them is killed by a prehistoric terror… in this case a type of aerial dinosaur. The team are soon heading to the site along with an uninvited guest… as Connor left Abby's flat he left a window open and Rex followed him into the car and on to the golf course. When Connor gets there he realises Rex is with him but can't catch him again. While he is chasing Rex the other members of the team have examined the victim, found the anomaly and sighted a giant flying dinosaur. Cutter is determined to take it alive; they are successful in catching it but Claudia is left with a concussion that causes her to suffer temporary blindness. It isn't long before they realise that the creature they have caught isn't responsible for the golfer's death… there is something else out there. It turns out there are a lot of 'something elses'; a swarm of small flesh eating flying dinosaurs that are drawn to the scent of blood.

This was another thrilling episode with another type of creatures that we haven't seen before. The way the swarming dinosaurs attack is very reminiscent of Hitchcock's 'The Birds'. The CGI for both dinosaur types is pretty impressive making the threat seem real. The subplot involving Rex following Connor was a bit of a distraction… the fact that Abby even kept Rex seems to be an excuse to show her in her undies as she keeps her flat hot for Rex. Connor's continual messing up also proves to be more irritating than amusing. The way Claudia finally escaped the attacking dinosaurs was exciting even though there was no explanation as to why Helen Cutter turned up then disappeared again; clearly a case of deus ex machina. There are a few other unlikely moments but none that spoilt my enjoyment of the episode; it contained a good mix of excitement and amusing moments. I've enjoyed the series so far and look forward to seeing the season one conclusion.
