Unfunny but entertaining

"Pacific Banana" may be the best sex comedy ever made in Australia, but believe me, that's not much of a recommendation. It is, of course, not funny in the least, but at least you can tell when it is trying to be. Furthermore it is filled with nudity; most other attempts at this fare fail at even that most basic premise: you pay to see a dirty movie and after a few split-second nudie shots, end up watching paint dry for an hour and a half. Many of the actresses pictured without their clothes are also quite beautiful, particularly a Polynesian girl who appears when the movie supposedly goes to Tahiti.

The plot: Mr Alvin Purple himself, Graeme Blundell, looking much older than in his *cough* "sex symbol" days six or seven years earlier, now plays a pilot who loses his erection every time he sneezes. Of course there are myriad women who are willing to try to help him with this "problem". His co pilot is a serial womaniser who pins a little bell to the panties of his conquests, telling them it is a family heirloom that Mark Antony gave to Cleopatra. He must have boxes of them in the plane's cargo hold.

Anyway, although the movie isn't funny, it is entertainingly stupid. I wasn't bored, which is more than I can say for every other Australian sex comedy.
