A double-edged sword

Warning: Spoilers
"Poster Girl" is an 38-minute documentary from 6 years ago that was nominated for an Oscar. It was written and directed by Sara Nesson and is all about Robynn Murray, a young woman who fought in Iraq War and was severely damaged when she returned. It becomes very clear in here that it is never Nesson's intention to make a movie about post-traumatic stress syndrome as a whole, but that she entirely focuses on the fate of one single soldier. That's why I cannot say that it is a negative point that the film never really elaborated on the illness in detail. Nonetheless I felt that Murray's past needed further elaboration. For example what did she mean when she said she did horrible things over there. Are we speaking about war crimes here? Or was she just "being a soldier". Then there is nothing wrong with that. No need to apologize. On other occasions the documentary felt disrespectful towards the forces. Maybe some of the actions should better not have been done, especially towards the end. And I am sure that there were several scripted scenes in there. Nonetheless, this was a decent watch and overall I am okay with the Academy Award nomination, even if a win may have been a bit too much. I recommend checking this one out.
