Review of Neerja

Neerja (2016)
8/10
Courageous, Bold and Dutyful
26 February 2016
The film is a testimony of dedication towards duty of an Indian air hostess "Neerja Bhanot" (1986) who sacrificed her life in the line of duty when an Indian passenger plane was hijacked in Pakistan. Sonam Kapoor plays the role of Neerja and she has done a terrific job by doing full justice to the character and will surely earn respect from her fans in future. This movie can be termed as a transitional phase for her future as she turns from a model to a performer. The director Ram Madhvani has made an impact movie within his limited resources and cast. He carries the whole plot nicely and keeps you on the edge of your seat during the proceedings. The drama, thrill, mystery and suspense has been maintained to the expectations. One feels like watching a Hollywood film as the events are unfolded. The highlight of the whole movie remains Sonam Kapoor who maintains a great balance between her acting and reality. Her expressions are a treat to watch and the maturity of her acting is clearly visible throughput the flick. Shabana Azmi who is playing the mother of Neerja shows her acting class once again. The veteran despite a limited role has proved her metal. The memorial speech by her in the climax is one hell of a scene that makes you quite emotional and one may shed tears while watching the crafty acting of Shabana Azmi. Neerja lost her life but saved the life of 357 passengers in the end leaving a message that no matter what comes may, you should perform your duty despite odd environments. Neerja is the youngest recipient of Indian highest civil award, Pakistan's Tamgha-i-Insaniyat and many other international awards. I recommend this movie to be watched at least once for sake of a cause, a message and a commitment with a thumbs up for Sonam Kapoorr!!!
