Unusual and wonderful

A far cry from the average cop show. From the opening scenes I was drawn into River's troubled life and his wonderful friendship and unrequited love for Stevie. It was intense and haunting throughout; tragic and tragically funny in turns. The scenes where River's 'manifests' appeared and disappeared were edited flawlessly and Stellan Skarsgård's acting was spectacular, moving, totally convincing. One felt compassion for all of the characters; his colleagues struggling to accommodate his odd behaviour; Stevie's family grieving and angry. Fantastic writing and equally fantastic acting. I was enchanted with it from start to finish, couldn't wait for the next episode and am gutted it is over. One of the best mini-series I have had the pleasure of watching and I have never felt compelled to review anything before. Thanks BBC.
