Buy It Now (2005)

Apparently money can buy anything

Warning: Spoilers
This is a 2005 movie which deals with a girl selling her virginity on ebay. That's basically all there is to it. Early on, we find out in general about her, how she interacts with her friends and family and then makes this fateful decision I mentioned before. Afterward we see some doubts in her and then we see her meeting the guy who bought her virginity. In the very end, we see how she deals with the aftermath of the decision. The writer and director is Antonio Campos and he was only in his early 20s when he made this. Today, 10 years later, he is in his early 30s and still making movies, even if a great breakthrough did not happen for him. From the actors in here, Rosemarie DeWitt is probably the most famous. Apparently, there are two version out there: one that runs for almost an hour and one that runs for slightly over 30 minutes and this is the one I saw. That's perfectly fine as well as, even at that low runtime, there were moments where the film dragged a bit already I must say. No need to make it even longer. The way you perceive this movie certainly comes down to how you perceive the lead character. For me, she did not do really much and I did not feel emotionally involved here. All in all, an underwhelming effort. Not recommended.
