Mel Gibson: The High Octane Birth of a Superstar (2002)

** (out of 4)

Rather bland promotional piece features interviews with the likes of Piper Laurie, Phil Avalon, Michael Pate, John Jarratt and several others as they discuss their opinions on Mel Gibson. This promotional piece was made for MGM's first release of MAD MAX and it's a pretty forgettable piece as the overly serious narration by George DelHoyo just overpowers you with stuff that you already know. You get to hear from Mel's talent agent and a few others as they discuss what was going on with the actor before MAD MAX. From here we learn about the rise to stardom and the roles that would follow after the 1979 cult film. Fans of Gibson might want to check this out for some of the stories but overall this is a pretty bland look at the actor.
