Swedish Teen Drama of the 1980s
17 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Three rather good looking teenagers get around in summertime.

The story is based on a Danish novel that I haven't read. The picture was one in a major row of similar productions 25 to 30 yrs ago. There were several teen riots in the center of Stockholm late summer of 1987 (around the time of filming), but there is no allusion here to that at all.

The main protagonist is a guy that seemingly is a part time criminal, but the plot centers on his noncriminal leisure time with his friend. They meet this girl that kind of drifts between the two of the guys.

However, the drama is limited, and the dialogue is even less: very far from being authentic. For instance, in one scene the protagonist is complaining about his friend's bringing along his girlfriend, leaving himself alone to ... masturbate.

Now, the expression employed is - in translation of course - the amusingly unexpected 'burbot clubbing' i.e. a method of winter fishing by hitting the fish through the ice. Howzat for an imaginative way of avoiding a four letter word!?

The settings are alright, and a number of Swedish hits make the soundtrack attractive enough. This may be a slow-paced and pointless trifle, but it is worthwhile as a sort of a sentimental homecoming. That is to say, if you were living in Stockholm in 1987.

Well, I did.
