Small budget, very smart script, great date movie.

What really impressed me was this movie's script. The dialog is witty but not unrealistically so. Not every line is as polished or as perfect as a Howard Hawks script, but that adds realism, rather than detracting from it. The overall effect is like spending a relaxed evening with your smart and funny friends.

Presumably due to budget reasons, the script occasionally violates the "Show don't tell" rule, and some events are only included by reference. This means some of the best jokes will be set up, but then slide past you if you aren't paying attention. (My favorite is "I never saw a Pekingese just attack like that; for no reason.")

The plot has a few holes in it, for example the back-story on the art dealer and his associate isn't well developed, which means the ending suffers a bit. Also and like any Rom-Com it is fairly predictable.and as I said the budget wasn't overly large. That being said, it's a charming Rom-Com and would make a great date movie.

It's smart, realistic, and funny without being bitter or cynical. I strongly recommend it.
