Barnaby Powers ( William Powell ) divorces his wife, Richmiel, ( Seena Owen ) after a tumultuous six years of marriage. She takes their young son, Oliver ( Dick Brandon ), with her and returns home. Barnaby soon follows after her to ask for possession of the child and falls in love with Ledda ( Alyce Mills ), Richmiel's compassionate cousin. Richmiel at first agrees to give up the child but spitefully changes her mind when she discovers that Barnaby and Ledda are in love. Oliver almost dies in an accident, however, and the neglectful Richmiel, who wants to go off with a new lover, finally agrees to give up the young child to the care of his father, Barnaby and the loving Ledda.
