Warning: Spoilers
As perusing the wonderful world of the internet I had stumbled across via Blood Sprayer or Horror Society I cant really remember but a film called "The Axeman Of Henderson County" and well color me intrigued I wanted to know more about it. I read the said review from the site and wanted to know more about the film. I am a sucker for low budget horror, to me the lower budget the better. Anyways enough rambling "Axeman" opens up with what is kind of an odd introduction I had thought the DVD skipped the title sequence and went straight into the film little did I find out it was later past the stereotypical back story that most slashers set up. We get the back story and we deal with what I was thinking was going to enter redneck territory took a change for the worse when Axeman's dad shoots him in the head and we see little Axeman sitting idly while the moon looks down upon him. Cut to what looks like an amazing place to shop at and we see our killer all grown up and ready to punish. I enjoyed the simplicity of our killer, because lets face facts a mask in a slasher does not have to be extravagant. A black ski mask is freaking frightening as is. The killer kills in what I believe should have just been practical effects but none the less it was a good set up. Then we cut to our hero the local sheriff doing what sheriff's do best try to make sure our townsfolk don't get killed. I enjoyed some of the actors and some I really don't think should ever act again but then again this was very retro to 80s slashers and for that you get what you paid for overall, if you are slasher fan and want to kill 75 minutes this is where its at.
