The area where "Homeland" never fails to bring quality showmanship is the technical areas. The cinematography of this season, this episode in particular, is chiller, which adds to the vital suspense "Homeland" needs to be in top form. The grating tension is very present in "Iron in the Fire", as well as the general plot elements operating to a profitable result. The show has been taking criticism for Carrie's development so far in season four. First with the unsavory baby-drowning "moment of weakness", and now with manipulating the impressionable, young Ian. As someone who denounced the horrid bathtub scene, I cannot say this is as ludicrous, but that does not mean this is going to drive the plot to the palace of acclaim the show once received. Can "Homeland" maintain its lauded character of Carrie Mathison without Brody? First impressions suggested yes, but each episode makes that initial review more unstable.
