Silver Lining finds Just That ****
9 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Wonderful biography of Broadway star Marilyn Miller which is brought to life by the wonderful performance of June Haver in the title role.

From her humble beginnings, Miller catapulted to Broadway where she certainly was the toast of the town.

Charles Ruggles provides comic relief as her astute father who is finally forced that his vaudeville career with his wife had to be replaced by a soaring daughter Marilyn.

The film is a wonderful one even with all the tragedies. Jack Carter, played nicely by an engaging Gordon MacRae could survive World War 1 but not a Pennsylvania road. Marrying again, Miller is told that illness demanded that she take it easy. She couldn't do that as she felt she would go out on her terms.

Ray Bolger was wonderful as the man she met in the theater and who she loved until he told her of his marriage.

Aren't we all looking for the sunny side of life? You'll find it in this 1949 film.
