Gunsmoke: Pucket's New Year (1957)
Season 2, Episode 15

A less serious show to start off 1957
5 June 2013
We get a change of pace in this episode as we take a different look into a new year with a story that is much more uplifting that some previous shows.

The story begins out on the cold prairie as Matt and Chester come across a unhitched wagon in an area that has been below freezing for days. Inside the wagon they find an old man with a lively spirit named Ira Pucket. Ira tells the Marshal that his partner left him on the prairie after he received a foot injury making him unable to ride a horse. Matt and Chester tell Ira that they are going to take him back to Dodge and let Doc look at his badly injured foot. As they are leaving Ira tells Matt that if he ever sees his partner, Jed, he is going to kill him.

Doc mends the old buffalo hunters but has to remove some of the foot due to gangrene. This causes the once proud hunter to become lame and he feels like his life is over. Matt is going to do everything he can to help Ira get back into life but it just became more difficult when Jed rides into town.

After some serious shows this episode is much more light and at times amusing. Some will find this show more child-like than regular but take it for what it is- a nice show to start a new year. With that attitude this show is not too bad.
